Housing - Assisted Living Facilities
Assisted-living facilities offer studio and one-bedroom apartments where limited assistance with medication and housekeeping is available. Meals are provided in a central dining facility. Non-medical help is usually available 24 hours a day (in case of a fall, for instance). A nurse may or may not be on the premises. Assisted-living facilities work well for individuals who are moderately self sufficient or who have a family member or paid caregiver to handle more-intensive caregiving needs. The costs of an assisted-living facility are not covered by Medicare.
