About Us: Senior Living Advisors
After recent experience with our parents needing assisted living, we knew our knowledge and experience could save others time, frustration, and the stress of navigating the "assisted living maze". The process was so similiar to our real estate experience that we started a company focused specifically on senior living and care options.
Caring for a loved one needing additional care and assistance with daily living is an overwhelming job. What to do next is an exhausting, stressful process and we are here to help.
We have been very fortunate to hire the very best people in this industry. Each of us has personal experience having cared for our own loved ones. Our Advisors have become experts in the information and resources needed to point you in the right direction.
Our history
My name is Mike Lee, after recent experiences with my mom and both of my in-laws needing assisted living, we realized that other people must be experiencing similar frustration with finding appropriate resources. We knew our knowledge and experience could save other time & frustration.
Our personal case study:
My Mom (Jean Lee) started having problems with dementia a few years ago. Mom was only 63 years old. Until this point, she was walking five miles a day, active in her church and loved being with her friends (we should all have friends like my mom's) We lived in a different city and depended on input from those that knew her. Her friends noticed she was now getting lost on trips she had made every week for years. My mom denied everything of course and was stubborn in accepting help. After much thought, we decided to move Mom closer to us. We decided to move her into a retirement community thinking this was a start. This is where our learning curve began. Fast forward one year - other problems developed quickly. Mom started hallucinating and losing her balance. We were lost, overwhelmed, and truly had no idea what was happening or what to do next. Mom was eventually diagnosed correctly with Lewey Body, a disease that combines the worst symptoms of Parkinson’s disease and Alzheimer’s.
We watched someone that was full of life slip away before our very eyes.
Unfortunately, our story is much like many others. Our mission is to help those in need and their loved ones while going through this learning curve phase.
Jo's Parents - Last year (2009) Dad lived in another town and was misdiagnosed with Parkinsons disease. Trying to make sure he was given the proper care, we got a second opinion. The doctor in Dallas told us he has PSP which is a form of palsy. Soon thereafter, we moved Mom and Dad to Dallas. Their first move was to an apartment community where they stayed for less than two months. This was a mistake, (dad fell twice) but a necessary one to prove to everyone what type of community they really needed to be in. The next move was to a residential care home where mom and dad could remain together. They even allowed Mom took keep her dog Sandy. Now we are able to sleep at night knowing they are both being well cared for with 24 hour supervision.
Update: 1/21/2011
After a long, brave, struggle Odell Tipton passed away in his sleep. While it rocked our world his condition was painful and we know he held on as long as he could; for us more than himself. Odell, never thought of himself first! He spent his whole life pleasing others. We miss him very much!
